Paper 2 Draft 1

Cooking as we know it has changed a lot in the past couple hundred years especially just in the last fifty years. When we first started cooking hundred of thousands of years ago it was very different from what it is now today. We first started using fire and nothing else to make food cooked now we cook with hundreds of items from different tools and ingredients that make it very intricate today. Food brought people together and helped create a civilization, it made us who we are as people, and has changed the way we live with cooking on TV.
Civilization to me is a place we all live and each one of us has our own views, culture, and ideas within us that make up our civilization. If you think about it everyone has a place in the world and has their own place that supports us all as a world we are just one massive civilization. Pollan is trying to say that even though as a civilization that loves food we are losing that aspect to our civilization due to our industry. Julia Child is a representation of what it was like before we started making cheap meals that you pop into the oven.
I agree that cooking has made us who we are. We are the only animals that have truly embraced cooking and it also represents where we came from/culture. We talked about this a lot in our Favorite food essays and how culture and food has shaped us as people and has created a civilization in America around us. (insert quote)
Cooking is something that makes us human and can make you feel many emotions and can help you make connections with experiences that you have had in the past.(insert quote of favorite meal essay).
Food today has changed a lot since the 1960s. Many people see it as a good thing but people also see it as a bad thing. Today we are creating food like it is an industrial item and making mass amounts of it. I feel like that is not the best thing for us health wise and culture wise also. Food back in the 1960s was handmade and made with care which is the complete opposite of what it is today. Today a pizza can be made in a factory with metal hands sprinkling the cheese on a pizza and throwing it into an oven. Then it is shipped to us to heat up and eat. For us there is no love and care that goes into making food which makes me sad because I am a cook myself (insert quote). Julia Child would hate how much the world has changed and how many people have forgotten what real cooking is. We are just looking for the easy rout out of things and try to get our things done as quick and easy as possible
People today have a drastic change from from a hundred years ago from cooking to an actual civilization. It seems like we have forgotten to look at the big picture and that is to enjoy life. We look at food as something that gets in our way even though we should be enjoying it. As a civilization we should be realizing we should not turn everything into a mass industry especially food. Sadly if the world continues like this cooking will be gone forever and we will be left with boring heat up pizza. That is not the cooking that makes us who we are. The cooking that makes us who we are is putting all the ingredients together and creating a masterpiece from scratch.
