Critical reading and annotating has always been an issue of mine for a very long time. I have always tried to pick out the important things that I might need later but I have never been too great at it. Today I try to find the main idea of a paragraph and, highlight it, then look for details about it. If it was a big enough view or idea I would write a comment about it next to where I highlighted it. When it came to looking back at the piece I would try to make a summary and paragraph around that idea and then take the quote and plug it into my paragraph. I have thought that this is a good idea but I need to expand upon thinking of questions as I read something. Something that is new to me is thinking about my own ideas since I was not able to do that on my own in high school since they did not want my views in a piece. It was hard trying to add in my own ideas since I learned to focus on other people’s ideas. I need to look at a piece as a what is my view and look deeper into what the author is talking about then talk about my view towards it. Like what Gilroy says “take the information apart, look at its parts, and then try to put it back together again in a language that is meaningful to you. My biggest issue is trying to maintain asking questions throughout an entire piece. I tend to zone out very easily and forget why I am reading something. I need to focus more on what I am reading, asking main questions, and how each paragraph relates to the question or what I think or believe.
